Project 3 will have a final roadway configuration of four general-use lanes and two express lanes in each direction. This is the westernmost project in the Moving I-4 Forward program and will tie into the existing Interstate 4 (I-4) highway configuration that heads toward Tampa. The project will add direct connectors, or ramps, from the I-4 express lanes to U.S. 27 and from U.S. 27 to the I-4 express lanes. Existing ramps will also be redesigned for improved mobility. The interchange has a lot of truck traffic, so the plan includes using concrete pavement to accommodate heavier loads.
In collaboration with Polk County, a new overpass will be built at Grandview Parkway to connect the roadway on either side of I-4.
Construction on this project will also be built simultaneously with Project 4 on the eastern end.
The Moving I-4 Forward Program will consist of five main projects plus an initial phase called the Accelerated Start that includes two additional components to jump-start future construction.
- Accelerated StartAccelerated start will add congestion relief lanes in each direction from east of U.S. 27 to east of World Drive
