Project 5 will build a new road called the Poinciana Connector that will extend and connect to Interstate 4 (I-4). The Central Florida Expressway Authority is planning an extension of the Poinciana Connector from where the limited access facility ends near U.S. 17 to Osceola Polk Line Road, County Road (C.R.) 532. The I-4 project will continue the facility and connect south of the interchange with State Road (S.R.) 429. All the interchange construction for the connection will occur during Project 4 in the program.
The location of the roadway will run through greenfield space, meaning the land is undeveloped. The land is also located in an environmentally sensitive area as well as a floodplain, so the road will be built elevated over the land.
The final configuration of the new road includes three lanes in each direction with the ability to expand to four lanes in each direction. Ramps connecting to Osceola Polk Line Road (C.R. 532) will also be included. Design is still underway on the 2.6-mile road that will extend into Osceola and Polk counties.
The Moving I-4 Forward Program will consist of five main projects plus an initial phase called the Accelerated Start that includes two additional components to jump-start future construction.
- Accelerated StartAccelerated start will add congestion relief lanes in each direction from east of U.S. 27 to east of World Drive
