As FDOT continues to serve the people of Florida by providing a strong transportation network, FDOT recognizes the need to scale the transportation industry’s workforce.

FDOT has developed and launched a paid, six-week mobile Construction Training Program designed to expand the pool of skilled laborers to help deliver transformational infrastructure projects across Florida.

This Program reflects FDOT’s strong commitment to building a sustainable pipeline of trained, job-ready workers who can enter the workforce quickly and make an immediate impact. 

Whether you’re new to construction or exploring a career change, this program provides you with the tools and training to jumpstart your career, while contributing to the critical transportation infrastructure that drives Florida’s strong economy and enhances everyone’s quality of life.

Program Overview
This paid six-week academy is offered at regular times throughout the year and consists of two phases. After four weeks of classroom and heavy equipment simulation training, participants either choose to earn a Commercial Driver’s License – Class B or continue on to employment opportunities. These are key skills that open doors to long term career growth in the construction industry.

PHASE I (4 WEEKS)
Four-week course that covers:
• Heavy equipment operation ​
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training ​
• Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic)
• Workplace Safety (OSHA) ​
• FDOT and other best construction practices​
PHASE II (2 WEEKS)
Two-week course that covers:
In the final two weeks, Phase 2 provides hands-on preparation for trainees pursuing their CDL Class B license.
CDL training will take place at a driving track facility in the local area.

Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
