The initial phase of the accelerated start project is now open to drivers along the Interstate 4 (I-4) Corridor. This work was anticipated for completion at the end of 2025 but is now complete eight months AHEAD OF SCHEDULE.
The announcement was made during a press conference on April 14, 2025, by Governor Ron DeSantis. He was joined by Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue.
Moving I-4 Forward’s Accelerated Start Project prioritized construction of new congestion relief lanes – one general use lane in each direction – along Interstate 4 (I-4). These additional lanes will provide enhanced regional connectivity by improving travel times along I-4.
Having these additional lanes will increase vehicle capacity to improve traffic flow, allowing drivers to get to their destination safer and faster. Congestion relief also means more reliable trips.
This achievement would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of the whole Moving I-4 Forward team. Stay tuned for more exciting updates and progress reports.
