It’s been over four months since Moving I-4 Forward’s Accelerated Start Project opened one congestion relief lane in each direction along Interstate 4 (I-4) between U.S. 27 and World Drive. Since the congestion relief lanes opened, drivers have enjoyed a consistent, reliable traffic flow.
In addition to shortening commute times, the Congestion Relief Lanes will also allow drivers to continue commuting seamlessly while the beginning of major construction activities take place for Project 1, Project 2, and Project 5 in early 2026.
There is a new, exciting development at World Drive. Crews have resurfaced the northbound lanes and parts of the southbound lanes from Celebration Boulevard to just south of Interior Street. The resurfacing also includes the World Drive ramps at I-4, providing a safer and smoother ride within this area.
These updates help expedite construction because it creates a buffer between the corridor’s future core projects, allowing multiple projects to be constructed simultaneously without impacting each other.
The important work happening at World Drive will continue into 2026. Check out the photos!
Moving I-4 Forward Construction Training Program Graduation
This summer, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) celebrated the first graduating class of the Moving I-4 Forward Construction Training Program. This program consisted of a four-week paid training period that taught candidates basic maintenance of traffic, workforce safety (OSHA), heavy equipment operations, and other construction practices. This Construction Training Program welcomes seasoned transportation professionals as well as those just beginning their careers in construction.
Graduates from the first class described the program as insightful for learning about roadbuilding practices and how to prioritize safety in the process. The trainees-turned-graduates have been well prepared for the start of their careers, from heavy-machinery simulation practices that ease the transition to on-the-job training to preparation for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B.
As these graduates move onto a workplace filled with opportunities, FDOT is looking forward to the next class’s enrollment. Interested in signing up? Check out our application page!
Meet the team hard at work to keep Moving I-4 Forward. In each issue, we’ll highlight an individual making a difference in our mission to improve the I-4 corridor.
Name: Jordan Coleman
Title: Bridge Engineer I
Why Moving I-4 Forward: “I’ve been working at FDOT’s Corridors Program Office (CPO) for almost a full year. I live nearby in ChampionsGate, so the opportunity to be part of the team working to make traffic conditions in the area better was a huge draw. It’s not very often you get to work on a project so close to home, literally!”
Member Trivia: Jordan is on a dragon boat racing team here in Central Florida and competes in races across the state. She’s also an avid reader, finishing about 50 books a year!
Jordan has played a crucial role in the Moving I-4 Forward Program. With seven years of experience as a bridge engineer, she has spent the last year creating concept designs for the bridges and walls for Projects 1, 2, 3, and 4. Additionally, she is heavily involved in the design and construction submittal review process for Accelerated Start Segments A and B. Prior to her role with the Moving I-4 Forward Program, Jordan spent several years supporting projects for the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA), specializing in element modeling for curved steel bridges, moveable bridges, and trusses.
One more thing: Congrats to our FDOT Class!
We proudly celebrated the graduation of our inaugural FDOT Commercial Driver’s License Class A Cohort. Twenty-one dedicated employees completed the CDL A training program and officially earned their CDL Class A licenses – a 100% pass rate. They’ve put in the hard work to become skilled, safety-focused drivers. Receiving this license opens additional opportunities for these employees and their careers at FDOT. Congratulations to our August 2025 CDL Class A Graduates.
